I feel over the moon 🙂 It’s a good thing to have something that makes your day!
Kickturns been so hard to learn. Some kind of mental block. But the…
I got it. I can turn. Not 180° but enough. So now I have to work on getting higher.
This achievement gave me an even better feeling than learning how to pump to get going back and forth. That was a milestone. But without being able to pump up in the half pipe…Then there is nothing to do at all. So that was sort of like being able to ride the lift up when your skiing…a must!
Come to a stage where skating is becoming a very good workout. And I don’t have to wait until everyone has left the building. I skate even if there are strangers skating. Well not too many perhaps. So from now on I get an hour of exercise that’s fun!
Since this is a country that’s chilly, rainy and eventually cold eight months a year I do like an indoor workout that’s not monotonous and boring.
I have to go to the gym to rehab my shoulder. A couple of times a week in the gym concentrating on my shoulder.
Skating is my rehabilitation for my body and soul.
Now turning is such a hard thing for me. But I started to do some kind of easy trick with a name, fakie footplant!
There are other ladies skating, maybe not my age and with better skills. Still mostly a young, male activity. And not all of the old guys are fenominal so I have my place among the gang that can’t drop in the vert. All the others can turn, however. So my goal is very obvious at this point. A must!
My new favorite workout, rehab center the coldstore.
Early Sunday morning skate. The weather is fine so we are not alone. Try different parts of Highvalley and try to be a bit braver. Not so easy.
I think it is difficult to turn and veer. Got to be better to use the big and stable deck in the ramp and ask for a more easily turned deck for carving.
At 9:30 there were newoldies, with my kind of skills, en masse in the bumps! Turned out they belonged to some kind of skateboard class. Not my cup of tea but it´s always encouraging to see the likes of me. Skating is catching on among a broader public. Well a little bit at least. I like that. But I prefer to do what I want, how I want on my own. It is the “trial and error, concentration thing” that’s making this fun. I suppose what I need is an activity that’s like a shielding bubble. Skateboard can most certainly be just that!
Evening skate and it´s getting darker day by day. Still warm and lots of people in HV. I got a “new” deck. A popsicle shaped smaller one with a shorter wheel base. A little bit easier and definitely better for kickturns. The other one is for ramp.
Still sunny summer weather so I took a session in Highvalley. Couple of newoldies like me. All of us had hopes for an empty park but it’s actually great to see others that still are practicing basics. Though no one else is quite as new to skateboarding as I am.
We could have done like many others start golfing, taking up yoga, tai chi or something else that’s less scary. But the feeling when something you worked on for a while just works is amazing. A sparkle in the eye says it all. This fun, enjoyable and good workout.
We all have a fun time in HV it seems.
We are so few that I can use all spots in the park and practice all sorts of stuff. But still hard to veer as much as I need. Depending on the trucks, not me 🙂
